Description
Xalatan (Latanoprost) is used to decrease high pressure in the eye in the patients who have open-angle glaucoma.  Latanoprost reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of watery moisture, mainly via the vasocleral pathway, as well as through the trabecular network. IOP reduction begins approximately 3–4 hours after drug administration, the maximal effect is observed after 8–12 hours, the effect persists for at least 24 hours.
Indication for use
Xalatan (Latanoprost) can be taken by almost all adults and children over 3 who have: 
Reduction of high intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma and high intraocular pressure.
Reduction of increased intraocular pressure in pediatric patients with high intraocular pressure and pediatric glaucoma.
Precautions
Xalatan (Latanoprost) is not recommended to use if you have hypersensitivity to latanoprost or other components of the drug; aphakia, pseudo-aphakia with rupture of the posterior capsule of the lens; inflammatory, neovascular or congenital glaucoma; pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding.
Dose and usage
Dose of Xalatan (Latanoprost): 2,5 ml eye drops, solution
Recommended therapy: 1 drop in the affected eye 1 time a day. The optimum effect is achieved in the evening. Xalatan should not be used more than 1 time per day as it has been shown that, when used more frequently, the effectiveness of reducing intraocular pressure is reduced.
Children: Eye drops can be used in pediatric patients in the same dosage as for adults.
Side effects
The following undesirable effects related to the use of the drug have been observed: eye irritation (burning sensation, feeling of sand in the eyes, itching, tingling and feeling of a foreign body); blepharitis; conjunctival hyperemia; pain in the eyes; enhanced iris pigmentation; transient spot erosion of the epithelium, eyelid edema, edema and corneal erosion; conjunctivitis; lengthening, thickening, changing the direction of eyelash growth, sometimes causing eye irritation; iritis / uveitis; keratitis; macular edema, rash, skin darkening of the eyelids and local skin reactions on the eyelids; dizziness, headache; asthma, shortness of breath.
