General information:

Ventolin is a prescription drug used to treat asthma attacks in patients 4 years and older. Asthma is a long-term disease that causes breathing difficulties. Those difficulties occur due to one of the components of asthma: inflammation (swelling, mucus is being built up in the airways) and constriction of airway (tightening of the muscles near the airway). Ventolin helps to prevent symptoms like coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing.

The Ventolin inhalation aerosol can be used with or without steroid treatment. The drug belongs to a category of medications known as bronchodilators. These are drugs that relax bronchial muscles. Albuterol works by opening breathing passages and relaxing bronchial muscles.
