Description
Dramamine (Dimenhydrinate)
The pills of Dramamine come in round shapes of white or yellow colors depending on the dosage and the manufacturer. The usual dosage for one tablet, which contains dimenhydrinate, is 50 mg. Dramamine represents an antihistamine solution aimed at reducing the action of the body's histamine chemical. The active component is dimenhydrinate.
Pharmacological use
This medicine is used for the prevention and relief of manifestations of the sea and air sickness, with nausea and vomiting of various origins, and also with Meniere's disease. It blocks histamine H1 receptors and m-cholinergic receptors of the central nervous system. This solution inhibits the hyperstimulated function of the labyrinth. It has an antiemetic, anti-nausea, sedative, moderate anti-allergic effect, eliminates dizziness. The action manifests after 20-30 minutes and lasts for 4-6 hours.
The leaflet provided with the packing offers basic information on how to use this medicine. Before use, it is better to discuss the dosage with your physician and make sure to follow his exact prescriptions.
Like is the case with each medicine, this drug can lead to unpleasant adverse effects, some of which may cause serious discomfort. The most frequently encountered ones are:
- drowsiness;
- fast or irregular heartbeat;
- dry mouth;
- tremor, restless condition;
- blurred vision.
Avoid taking alcoholic beverages, sedatives, and tranquilizing drugs during treatment with this drug. You should call an ambulance if you have manifestations of an allergic reaction, such as urticaria; difficulties with breathing; swelling of the face.
