Description
Aldara (Imiquimod) Cream belongs to the group of chemotherapeutic agents for topical application. This medication is an immune response modifier. It is used to treat actinic keratosis (a condition caused by too much sun exposure) on the face and scalp. The active ingredient does not have direct antiviral activity. After topical application, the drug penetrates the skin immediately after using a single dose.
Indication for use
Aldara (Imiquimod) Cream is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:
external genital and perianal genital warts;
small surface basal cell carcinomas;
clinically typical, without signs of hyperkeratosis or hypertrophy, actinic keratoses located on the skin of the face or scalp in patients with a normally functioning immune system in cases where the effectiveness and / or acceptability of cryotherapy is limited, given the size or number of lesions, and other local methods therapy is contraindicated or less appropriate.
Precautions
Aldara (Imiquimod) Cream is not recommended to use if you have severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components; pregnancy and period of lactation.
Dose and usage
Aldara (Imiquimod) Cream 5% – 250mg smooth, light yellow substance in tube.
The cream is applied 3 times a week, before bedtime, and left on the skin for 6-10 hours. Therapy should be continued until the disappearance of neoplasms, but not more than 4 months with the appearance of genital warts. The cream is applied in a thin layer and rubbed into a clean surface of the affected area until completely absorbed. The drug should not be applied to healthy areas. Within 6-10 hours after applying the cream on the skin, you can not take a shower or bath.After the specified time, the cream is washed off with warm water and soap.
Side effects
The medication is usually well tolerated if used in recommended doses. An allergy may occur in case of individual intolerance. In particular, can be observed: lymphadenopathy; insomnia, depression; headache; dizziness; drowsiness; hyperemia; nausea; vomiting; joint pain, back pain; tendency to bacterial infections, acne.
